Naming the Giovanni Palladium Congas

congas

LP chose the name "Palladium" to refer to the Golden Age of Latin Music in the 1950's & '60s, commonly referred to as Latin-Jazz.

Afro-Cuban (Latin) instruments & elements have been influencing many of the best Jazz players since at least the 1920s, and the interaction of Afro-Cuban & Jazz music entered a "Golden Age" in the 50s &'60s when Jazz musicians, such as Dizzy Gillespie, further developed the Afro-Cuban/Jazz sound.

This interaction of Jazz & Latin sounds continues today, performed & promoted by such notable musicians as Poncho Sanchez & Chucho Valdes.

Much of the synthesis of Afro-Cuban and Jazz music occurred in New York & the title "Palladium" was also given to many New York clubs during this era.

LP Palladium congas are a tribute to this era, a time of creative & productive explosion among clubs, musicians & the Latin-Jazz music scene.

*"Palladium" also means, "a sacred object having the power to preserve a city or state possessing it" (American Heritage Dictionary).  Like a sacred drum, the Palladium congas are set apart, the best quality & musical responsiveness available in a conga.
