Caxixis (kuh-she-shes) are Afro-Brazilian percussion instruments. Our caxixis are made in Brazil and are hand woven. Small caxixis are commonly played with Berimbaus and as a hand percussion instrument. And the caxixis that we sell can be played alone or in pairs. A player will often play with two different sizes, one in each hand. Various movements and percussive effects are created with the caxixi (kuh-she-she). A caxixi is like a glorified shaker. It has the soothing timbre of a shaker, but produces many more effects. Players must have endurance in their shoulders, wrists, fingers and grip to play the caxixi well.
