Gong Mallet Recommendations
Gong mallets make a big difference in the sound quality of a gong. The size of the mallet; the covering and/or material of the mallet head; and the hardness of mallet are the main factors, which effect the sound of the gong.
We recommend the Paiste Mallets for Paiste Gongs; the Sabian
or Mike Balter Mallets for Sabian Gongs; and also the Sabian or Mike Balter Mallets for Wuhan and Chinese Wind Gongs.A Basic Gong Mallet is included with each of our Chinese Gongs, which includes all Wuhan Gongs and
Chinese Wind Gongs. However, to bring out the best tones we recommend using the Sabian or Mike Balter Gong Mallets. We use different size mallets on a single and on a set of gongs. Each size mallet brings out a different range of tones within the gong. Generally the smaller the mallet the more treble and the larger the mallet the more bass. Exploring different mallets is one way to explore the possibilities and virtually infinite nuances of your gong.To further enhance your gong we recommend using Superball Mallets, such as the Friction Mallets or Mike Balter Super Rub Mallets on all of the gongs. Although a regular mallet is enough to get you started we recommend getting a Friction or Super Rub Mallet at some point in order to a great pallet of tones and effects.
